A Lifecycle Challenge
River Lee Country Park, Hertfordshire
Sunday 11th June 2006
The 10-mile route is wholly within the River Lee Country Park, meaning that you do not need to ride on any public roads. From the start, the route will follow the park's designated pathways along rivers, through woodland, around lakes and will bring you back to your starting position to cross the finishing line.
The route will be sign posted and marshalled in key points to ensure that you follow the correct pathways and for your safety.
A map of the park can be downloaded here [Adobe Acrobat Document].
The start and finish area is located off of Highbridge Street at the Showground entrance. The route follows Horsemill Stream northwards, circles Seventy Acres Lake and north again to Kings Weir. Riders will then travel southwards down the east edge of the park to the YHA village and a loop around Cheshunt Lake leads south back to the finish area.
The start of the event will be at 11.00am. Cyclists will be set off in 'waves' so to alleviate overcrowding at the beginning of the course.
We would advise participants to arrive at the site from 10.00am onwards to ensure that they have plenty of time to get their bikes and themselves ready for action.
If hiring a bike, please make sure that you allow enough time to pick up your bike from the YHA and cycle the 10 minute ride to the starting area.
A warm up with all riders with take place in the starting area at 10.50am.
We would anticipate most riders returning to the finish by 12.30pm-1.30pm, in time to enjoy some well deserved lunch, music, activities and the information stands (see 'More than a cycle ride').
Participants entering individually must be 18 years of age or over on the day of the event. However participants aged between 16 and 18 years of age may enter as part of a team as long as the team has at least one adult aged over 18.
Entry to the event costs £10.00 per rider. (See FAQ's for information on where your money goes.)
Entry can be completed by downloading [Adobe Acrobat Document] and completing an application form and sending a cheque payment.
Once entered, participants will receive an 'Event Information Pack' with their participant rider number, event details, fundraising ideas and a sponsorship form.
If there are still places available, a limited number will be made available for riders to enter on the day. Don't leave it to chance - enter today.
Each rider must wear a helmet whilst riding on their bike at the event.
For identification, all participants will be sent a rider number, which must be worn on their shirt during the ride. In case of an emergency and for easy reference, participants must write their name and details of any health problems or medication on the reverse of the number.
Any participant unsure of their physical ability to take part in the event should take medical advice from a general practitioner prior to the event.
First Aid will be present at the start / finish site and a mobile first aid unit will be positioned on the course.
Participants in the Pedal in the Park event will be covered by a Public Liability Insurance policy through British Cycling.
There is plentiful car parking, free of charge at the venue. This will be clearly signposted as you enter the park from Highbridge Street. See Getting there.
A toilet block is situated on the edge of the venue car park and mobile toilets will be available in the event arena by the start / finish site.
Changing Facilities and Showers

There will be a 'quick-drop' baggage area at the start/finish site, but please try to bring as little baggage as possible to the event. Please note that the organisers cannot be held responsible for your baggage and we recommend that you do not bring valuables on the day or that you keep valuables on your person.
Mobile catering units will be available on site for you to purchase a pre-ride snack or a well deserved lunch!
Bike and helmet hire will be available through the Lee Valley YHA, onsite at the park.
Please book your bike hire directly with the YHA by calling . Please make sure that you state that it is for the Pedal in the Park event.
On the day, bikes will need to be collected from the YHA. If travelling by train, Cheshunt station is a two-minute walk via Windmill Lane. If you are driving to the venue and picking up your bike from the YHA, parking is available in the nearby Pindar Car Park (free of charge), by Cheshunt Station, accessed via Windmill Lane off the A121
